![]() ![]() The Pho Nam Restaurant appears to have been built as either a Hyatt Coffee Shoppe or a Copper Penny restaurant. Before it was known as The Pantry, it was called the Peninsula Grill. The Pantry was built as either a Lodge Coffee Shoppe or a Copper Penny restaurant. It was the Camino Real Restaurant before becoming Taqueria Maya's. This Sacramento building must have been built as a Lodge Coffee Shop. Mountain Mike's Pizza was built as a Lodge Coffee Shop around 1969. ![]() The rocky outcropping appears to be taller than some of the other buildings. This Lompoc Restaurant was built as a Lodge Coffee Shop. More than likely, it was originally a Lodge Coffee Shop. This Norwalk building was supposedly built as a Copper Penny. The building now houses the Country Way restaurant. This former Hyatt Coffee Shoppe was built around 1967. Since 2015, the building has housed Chikara. This former Hyatt Coffee Shoppe housed the Kahoo El Camino restaurant when these photos were taken in 2014. ![]() ![]() In 2018, the building began housing Bill's Cafe. The building began housing an Original Pancake House around 2003. In the early 1970s, it was renamed the Copper Wheel. This former Hyatt Coffee Shoppe opened in 1969. Sundays are my favorite day because we have a local mariachi playing music and tortilla cook working the grill which all comes together with a feel-good atmosphere.(hit "refresh" to get the most recent version of this page click on photos for larger images) My favorite part of working the restaurant is getting feedback from our customers when they start telling us how much they loved their meal. All of us know how to cook, thanks to our grandma for handing down her recipes. The nearest bus stops to Taqueria Mayas (Maya Developments) in Sacramento are Broadway & 28th St (WB) and Franklin Blvd & San Fernando Way (NB). Our Taco Truck and Restaurant are owned and operated by family members. We recently decided that now was the time to open our restaurant and so we launched in 2012 on 2700 Broadway Street in and so far it’s been picking up well. We kept having customers saying how great our food was and they kept asking again and again that we should open a restaurant. When our family moved into the US, our Dad began working at a local factory and eventually decided to start his own taco truck back in ’99 on Harbor and West Capital. Some of our signature platters including the Carne Asada, Al Pastor, Cabaza, Carnitas are still being made today. We got used to making food with fresh ingredients from the beginning and never used anything frozen. There were no groceries stores around in our community, so we had our own acre of “milpa” were we farmed the vegetables we needed and got fresh meat from our local butcher and had to do everything by hand. I remember when our grandma used to get up at six every morning and make 500 tostadas and tortillas from scratch by grinding down the corn into a dough called “el molino”. We’d always had many recipes from within the family, so when money got tight we decided one day to start cooking for a living. We had to find a way to make a living, so our family built a small kitchen on the side of our home. …where everything was a one-hour drive away. Our family started in a ranching community near Penjamo Guanajuato, Mexico… Taqueria Maya serves authentic taqueria-style food combined with a full menu of Mexican restaurant favorites. Taqueria Maya is owned and operated by the Maya Family and located on Broadway near downtown Sacramento, California. ![]()
